Rising the consumer’s awareness, the final link in the chain, is a priority to curb the marketing of counterfeits, as well as media coverage of the phenomenon, so that it becomes one of the main preoccupations of politicians.
Permanent contact with the media
UNIFAB participates in debates or TV shows both as an institution and as a spokesperson for companies. It informs the general public about the dangers, extent and development of counterfeiting.
ORGANISATION OF EVENTS
Every year, Unifab organises the French edition of the World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, in order to spread awareness among holiday-makers on beaches, inform consumers at railway stations and at marketplaces.
THE UNIFAB’S WEBSITE contributes to rise awareness of the problems and risks of counterfeiting and gives up-to-date information to Internet users, as well as to its members in the Members’zone.
THE MUSEUM OF COUNTERFEITING presents the phenomenon of counterfeiting in numerous industrial sectors. It serves as an effective awareness tool among the general public, most particularly students, and provides specific and visual information, while informing the visitors of the extent of this plague and its financial repercussions (cf. Museum of Counterfeiting)

THE COMMISSIONS are meetings which allow numerous discussions in order to develop action and legislation concerning the protection of industrial property and the fight against counterfeiting. These summits lead to the signing of agreements, the drafting of green papers and code of conducts, the elaboration of reports and studies.
THE ANNUAL SEMINARS offer a vast field of discussion and serve as a meeting point for intellectual property professionals: the European Intellectual Property Forum tackles annually the main current themes in intellectual property affairs. In addition, seminars and conferences organised in partnership with various organisations in order to deal with more specific issues. A NETWORK OF FRENCH AND INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:
Unifab has connections with everyone concerned by the defence of intellectual property: the Customs, including the Juridical Customs (SNDJ), the French Police International Technical Co-operation Delegation (SCTIP), the General Direction for Competition, Consumption and Repression of Frauds (DGCCRF), the Juridical Police, the Gendarmerie, the Ministry of Justice, Economic Expansion posts, councils and lawyers specialised in intellectual property, other national anti-counterfeiting associations, and particularly members of the GACG – Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group – founded in 1998 by Unifab.
THE PUBLICATIONS essential in latest news concerning intellectual property: the Newsletter presents the actions and projects of the Union des Fabricants, the International Review of Industrial and Artistic Property (RIPIA) publishes jurisprudences, and the practical Guides and Studies discuss particular themes and are regularly updated.
THE AUTHENTICATION SERVICE offers to businesses the opportunity to externalise the function of a product expert before the public authorities, and the certainty to deal with the cases in the time frame imposed by right holders (max 10 days for Customs).

Unifab maintains privileged relations with the European Commission and participates in a number of works with different Directions.
INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS
Unifab conducts a communication politics supported by international bodies and attends numerous events whose aim is a better application of intellectual property rights with :
- The Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM)
- The European Patent Office (EPO)
- The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)
- The World Customs Organisation (WCO), so as to increase repression in relation to IP infringements and improve international coordination
- The World Trade Organisation (WTO) in the framework of the ADPIC (Legal Aspects of Intellectual Property Relating to Trade) deals
- International Criminal Police (INTERPOL)
Each day Unifab increases its data base database with countries which manufacture or market fakes, in order to provide companies with appropriate and efficient information.

COOPERATE WITH PUBLIC AUTHORITIES
Under the guardianship of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, the Union des Fabricants is recognised as a public utility organ since the 19th century, and weaves essential links for its members with administrations and public authorities: Customs, Gendarmerie, Juridical Police, Economic Missions, the General Direction for Competition, Consumption and Repression of Frauds (DGCCRF), the Ministry of Justice…in order to raise awareness concerning the problem of counterfeiting and help them recognise fake products.
In addition to that, Unifab collaborates actively with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), it participates in the works of the National Anti-Counterfeiting Committee (CNAC) whose communication workgroup is presided by Unifab, and realises numerous operations of partnership and cooperation with certain specialised services (formal agreement with Customs…), and sets up numerous partnerships and cooperation with several specialised services.
Unifab trains public services, in France as well as abroad, in order to coordinate its members’ interests with the preventive and repressive actions organised by the institutions. Therefore, it arranges practical training courses aimed at public authorities (Customs, Police, Gendarmerie, DGCCRF and Justice), hosts numerous foreign delegations and is in permanent contact with economic missions.
